As part of The Arc’s mission, the webinar series will encompass a wide variety of topics and practices in the area of intellectual and developmental disabilities – such as autism services, legal and financial, housing, employment, transition and family support.
These one hour webinars are designed for families, self-advocates, professionals, and the general public and will be offered on a monthly basis.
To access the online series you will need a computer, phone, or tablet with a microphone. Speakers or headsets attached to your computer are recommended for audio, or you can use your phone. Instructions on how to connect will be given once you register.

The ADA at 33: Its Impact, Your Voices
On Tuesday, July 25, Leo will cover the 33rd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) including a pre-recorded interview with advocate and former MRC Commissioner Charlie Carr. Leo will also be joined by Marty Ford of The Arc of the United States. The session also will cover some aspects of the committee which resulted in the ADA and advancing full implementation.
Passing Major Federal Legislation with Charlie Fiske: The National Transplant Act of 1984
On Tuesday, August 22, Charlie Fiske will join Leo to discuss a major national milestone in which he, his daughter Jamie, and family played a key role — the National Transplant Act of 1984. They will cover the elements of passing major federal legislation, and the drive toward implementation. A short film from the University of Minnesota on the milestone will be part of the session.
Depression and Down Syndrome: What Are the Symptoms?
Dr. Michelle Palumbo and Dr. Robyn Thom from the Lurie Center at Massachusetts General Hospital will present on depression in Down syndrome. What are the symptoms? What should families be looking for? How do you differentiate it from Alzheimer’s and dementia? What treatments are available? They will also discuss their study which provides free care.
